Thursday, October 20 - Grandville Game

Wow. Another game in miserable conditions! I am so proud of the boys playing through their pain and discomfort and ending the season on a solid, well played game and a victory! A big shout out to Nolan Reeve for great hustle and determination to get the ball past their keeper. Another great performance from Austin Robinson in goal was a huge factor in our win too! Way to go team! We ended our season with 6 wins, 4 losses, and 2 ties, which is a good "winning" record. But I also realized that 3 out of our 4 losses came to teams with 8th graders playing. Remove those "unfair" games and we had just one loss to Zeeland Christian that really we should have won or at worst tied. What a great season!!!! Thanks for all the hard work and all the parent support!

Coach Timmer

Wednesday, October 19 - Holland Christian

Growing up playing soccer for Holland Public Schools, I always LOVED to beat Holland Christian, as they were a huge rival of ours. Unfortunately in my 11 years of coaching in Zeeland, that hasn't happened very often. But I know we were right there against them this year. We played a very solid game and had our chances. We just didn't capitalize on them! The game was very even in my eyes and could have easily ended in a tie or a victory. I feel really good about our play. Big thanks to Austin Robinson on a tremendous effort in goal, filling in for Sean. Also, a big high five to Tyler Burtch for switching to forward the last few minutes of the game and getting us on the scoreboard!

Wednesday, October 12 - Allendale Game

No Comment. Well actually, one comment. I was a bit disgusted with the scheduling of that game against a team with that had almost no 7th graders on it and whose 8th graders were that big and that good. Very frustrating for everyone. Letting it go and moving on.

Tuesday, October 11 - Byron Center game

Wow! What a great game! It's been a long time since I've had a team beat Byron Center. We had a solid performance against a very good team. They only had 2 losses so far this season. If you weren't able to be there, we defeated Byron Center 2-1 with one goal scored by Nolan Reeves off a great pass by Alex Rodenbeck, and the "go ahead" goal was an truly spectacular site as Nolan Reeve crossed the ball over the goal keeper to the far side of the goal, where Jonah Gough leaped in the air and headed it into the corner of the net! The victory did not come easily as Sean "Stone Wall" Howard made several phenomenal saves that made spectators wonder if they were watching the World Cup. Everyone played well and gave good effort after a tiring day of MEAP testing. Way to go guys!!!! This brings our record to 5 wins, 2 losses, and 2 ties.

West Ottawa Harbor Lights Game

What a fun game tonight! We finally put all the pieces together and played a solid game for the entire 60 minutes. There was some great passing, talking and keeping spread out on the field again, but this time we actually finished many of the opportunities we earned! What great weather too! With all the inconvenience the sudden rescheduled game caused many of us, I am still thankful to God for all the positives that came out of it.

Hudsonville Game

Tonight was a very solid a game for us. We played well as a team, making some smarter passes and maintaining possession longer. We also played much better on defense. We had many great opportunities to score, but unfortunately could not capitalize on them! Hopefully at our next game against W.O. Harbor Lights we can put it all together!

Zeeland Christian Game

Oh man, what a bummer! Games like tonight are tough because we played so well and really started talking more on the field, staying spread out better, and making much better passes. Which all led to some great opportunities to score. Unfortunately, we just made a few small blunders defensively that our opponents were able to take advantage of and that's all it took. Instead of winning a game you should have won or maybe tied, you lose. But I actually was really encouraged by what I saw during the game. These boys do listen to what I'm teaching them. We worked really hard at staying spread out and talking more last week and it started showing today. It makes me excited to keep going and see how much more they can improve as the season continues!

Grand Haven game

Well, as frustrating as it was to have no official show up for our game, I am glad we were able to get the kids out on the field and still play most of a game tonight. There was a call or two that would have maybe changed the final score in our favor, but all in all it was a fairly clean game. If you didn't make it, we were soaked before it ever started and then it stopped raining once we started! We won 2-1 with several other opportunities that were very close to going in. Nolan Reeve scored both with a nice assist from Jonah Gaugh. Another good game, especially in wet and cold conditions.

Jenison Game

Monday's game was a tough one. If you missed it, Jenison beat us 4-2. Nolan Reeve scored both goals for our team and was seconds away from scoring a third when the final whistle blew. Jenison had a few 8th graders on their team that were VERY good. One that really stood out was #11. He tried his best to get past Sean, but was denied again and again with unbelievable saves! I was extremely impressed with Sean's performance in goal. He definitely kept us in the game. While it stinks to get our first loss, at least it was to a good team with an unfair advantage of having some major help from some 8th graders. Even with them playing, we gave them a very tough game and I am really proud of our play.

Hamilton Game

Another fun and exciting game! If you missed it, Nolan Reeve put 2 in during the first half and Hamilton got 2 quick ones on us during a brief defensive lapse we had. Then later in the 2nd half Nolan kicked a corner kick to Andrew Everse who shot it and it hit off another Hamilton player and then into the goal. We won 3-2.

Hamilton was a good team and their coach gave us a really great compliment on our performance today. I was very proud of how our team played and the good sportsmanship we displayed, even when faced with some unsportsmanship from a few players on the other team. So far I really think we've improved some each game we've played. I hope that this continues. The more we start to put everything together and make it work, the more fun it will be to watch the boys play at a higher level.

WO Mac Bay Game

Well, we played a tough match against West Ottawa Mac Bay tonight. If you weren't able to make it there, the game was back and forth. We went down one goal, then scored to tie it up 1-1. Then WO scored two more on us to make it 3-1. But we battled back and scored 2 (one in the last 2 minutes of the game) to tie it up 3-3. We actually had MANY good opportunities to score, but our shots were just off (usually by only 6 inches!!!) and that's just the way it goes sometimes. I'm proud of the team though. While we could have been better in some areas, we never gave up and that is more important to me than winning. Jonah Gouff had two nice goals including the tying score with less than 2 minutes remaining and Ty Kindred scored one. Those goals wouldn't have happened without the great assists coming from Austin Robinson and Nolan Reeve. Last, but certainly not least, Sean Howard played a tremendous game as our goal keeper today. He made so many GREAT saves that kept us in the game. I was truly impressed by his play today.

Friday, September 16, 2011

Well, not bad for the first game of the season! If you weren't there, here is a brief synopsis: The Chix jumped out to an early lead in the first half, thanks to Nolan Reeve's HAT TRICK (3 goals). Holland put one in our goal to make it 3-1 at the half. Holland battled back and tied the game up at 3-3 early in the 2nd half. But the Chix "kicked" it in gear and scored 3 more goals to beat Holland 6-3. Andrew Everse, Caleb MaComber and Austin Robertson all scored in the 2nd half, with assists coming from Dustin Voetberg, Jonah Gough (Gawf) and Nolan Reeve. Thanks all who came out to support us!

2011-09-15 vs Holland

More news (unfortunately the bad kind)....Muskegon only has one team (combined with mostly 8th graders) so we are losing that game as well. Something else that I found very surprising is that Jenison and Holland Christian will both have blended teams (7th and 8th graders) for their 7th grade squad this year. They didn't have enough 7th graders trying out, so they took 8th graders that would have been cut and allowed them to play on the 7th grade team to save the 7th grade program this year. All this really means for us is that we will have a tougher opponent, but that's alright with me....I'm not afraid! Bring it on, I say!
Hey Team! Just found out that our last game against Grandville on October 20 has changed location. It is still away, but is now being played at Calvin Christian. The address is 4375 Ivanrest SW instead of Grandville M.S.
