Grand Haven game

Well, as frustrating as it was to have no official show up for our game, I am glad we were able to get the kids out on the field and still play most of a game tonight. There was a call or two that would have maybe changed the final score in our favor, but all in all it was a fairly clean game. If you didn't make it, we were soaked before it ever started and then it stopped raining once we started! We won 2-1 with several other opportunities that were very close to going in. Nolan Reeve scored both with a nice assist from Jonah Gaugh. Another good game, especially in wet and cold conditions.

Jenison Game

Monday's game was a tough one. If you missed it, Jenison beat us 4-2. Nolan Reeve scored both goals for our team and was seconds away from scoring a third when the final whistle blew. Jenison had a few 8th graders on their team that were VERY good. One that really stood out was #11. He tried his best to get past Sean, but was denied again and again with unbelievable saves! I was extremely impressed with Sean's performance in goal. He definitely kept us in the game. While it stinks to get our first loss, at least it was to a good team with an unfair advantage of having some major help from some 8th graders. Even with them playing, we gave them a very tough game and I am really proud of our play.

Hamilton Game

Another fun and exciting game! If you missed it, Nolan Reeve put 2 in during the first half and Hamilton got 2 quick ones on us during a brief defensive lapse we had. Then later in the 2nd half Nolan kicked a corner kick to Andrew Everse who shot it and it hit off another Hamilton player and then into the goal. We won 3-2.

Hamilton was a good team and their coach gave us a really great compliment on our performance today. I was very proud of how our team played and the good sportsmanship we displayed, even when faced with some unsportsmanship from a few players on the other team. So far I really think we've improved some each game we've played. I hope that this continues. The more we start to put everything together and make it work, the more fun it will be to watch the boys play at a higher level.

WO Mac Bay Game

Well, we played a tough match against West Ottawa Mac Bay tonight. If you weren't able to make it there, the game was back and forth. We went down one goal, then scored to tie it up 1-1. Then WO scored two more on us to make it 3-1. But we battled back and scored 2 (one in the last 2 minutes of the game) to tie it up 3-3. We actually had MANY good opportunities to score, but our shots were just off (usually by only 6 inches!!!) and that's just the way it goes sometimes. I'm proud of the team though. While we could have been better in some areas, we never gave up and that is more important to me than winning. Jonah Gouff had two nice goals including the tying score with less than 2 minutes remaining and Ty Kindred scored one. Those goals wouldn't have happened without the great assists coming from Austin Robinson and Nolan Reeve. Last, but certainly not least, Sean Howard played a tremendous game as our goal keeper today. He made so many GREAT saves that kept us in the game. I was truly impressed by his play today.

Well, not bad for the first game of the season! If you weren't there, here is a brief synopsis: The Chix jumped out to an early lead in the first half, thanks to Nolan Reeve's HAT TRICK (3 goals). Holland put one in our goal to make it 3-1 at the half. Holland battled back and tied the game up at 3-3 early in the 2nd half. But the Chix "kicked" it in gear and scored 3 more goals to beat Holland 6-3. Andrew Everse, Caleb MaComber and Austin Robertson all scored in the 2nd half, with assists coming from Dustin Voetberg, Jonah Gough (Gawf) and Nolan Reeve. Thanks all who came out to support us!

More news (unfortunately the bad kind)....Muskegon only has one team (combined with mostly 8th graders) so we are losing that game as well. Something else that I found very surprising is that Jenison and Holland Christian will both have blended teams (7th and 8th graders) for their 7th grade squad this year. They didn't have enough 7th graders trying out, so they took 8th graders that would have been cut and allowed them to play on the 7th grade team to save the 7th grade program this year. All this really means for us is that we will have a tougher opponent, but that's alright with me....I'm not afraid! Bring it on, I say!
Hey Team! Just found out that our last game against Grandville on October 20 has changed location. It is still away, but is now being played at Calvin Christian. The address is 4375 Ivanrest SW instead of Grandville M.S.
